(I match foundation to my neck, not my chest, because I don't often expose the latter. for various reasons.) Green-toned sunscreens have intrigued me from the moment I first saw one - after all, I wear sunscreen every day, so why not use it to color-correct? Turns out, it's not that easy.

Most of us know by now that sunscreen needs to be applied in generous amounts to actually protect us, but some of the sunscreens I tested made that pretty hard. If I applied too much at once, they got patchy and streaky, but if I tried to apply them in two or three layers, they pilled. And if I try to use them as a final layer over another sunscreen, I have to worry about compatibility issues, plus it defeats the whole purpose of using one product to achieve two things. And some of these will look patchy no matter what - maybe if you have perfect skin, these might work for you, but my early 30s, acne-prone, combination skin doesn't play well with tinted stuff, I'm afraid. (My favorite sunscreen, the sadly discontinued Sunkiller Perfect Strong Moisture, never pills on me, neither does Anessa.)

The candidates are:

Allie Nuance Change UV Gel in Bright White "Nuance Green"

Skin Aqua Tone Up UV Essence (I own both the 2019 and 2020 formula, but I cannot tell you which one I currently have open as the bottles look the exact same - if necessary, I will make another comparison post later, but I cannot in good conscience open another bottle of sunscreen before using this one up)

Suncut Tone Up UV Essence Mint Green

All of these are SPF 50, PA++++ sunscreens with mixed chemical and physical filters, and they all contain alcohol. Only the Skin Aqua bothers my eyes, though. They all claim to be resistant to water and sweat, but I personally would only trust Allie on a really hot or humid day. Also, all of these are scented. Considering many people with redness in their skin probably suffer from sensitivities, I am not sure why all three companies decided to do this... The scents don't bother me (I actually really like Allie's jasmine peach scent), but I don't think they were necessary. Majolica Majorca (owned by Shiseido) has an unscented green base, but that one is only SPF 30 and PA+++, so I personally would not use it in summer. Since it is also more of a dedicated make-up base, it's only 35 grams, so not great value considering it costs over a thousand yen. (I looked through their official website and store for ten minutes to find the volume until heading over to @cosme where I found it - it should be illegal to sell products without clearly stating how much they contain...) I am also already seeing comments saying the product doesn't play well with foundation - I guess it's not supposed to, because the purpose is to make your skin look better without foundation, but in my experience that doesn't bode well for the product not pilling.

Allie is the most expensive sunscreen in this line-up, with a set retail price of 1.800 yen for 60 grams, whereas the other two retail for under a thousand yen for 80 grams each. As I said above, though, Allie is the only brand of the three I would trust for actual outdoor activities, as Allie and Anessa are the two workhorse brands for sunscreens in Japan. (I wore Anessa when working outdoors in the Tokyo summer, and it kept my pale skin from burning.) That said. Skin Aqua looks absolutely beautiful in my bathroom. X'D

Anyway, on to the swatches (excuse my awful photography skills):

All three sunscreens freshly applied, in natural outdoor lighting on
an overcast day and in my bathroom under artificial lighting: Allie (top) - Skin Aqua
(middle) - Suncut (bottom)

You can already see that Allie barely has a green tint, and pulls mostly white. The suncut is especially patchy around my eye, which I guess ist my driest area, but maybe it didn't play well with the Sana eye cream. Suncut also looked much flakier around my hairline.

I also thought it might be smart to take some swatches on my face the next day, which unfortunately had very different weather conditions, so I only managed to get a good shot indoors, but I hope they'll help anyway. I also got the order wrong - these are Suncut on top, Skin Aqua in the middle, and Allie the closest to my chin. Here, once again, I used Hatomugi All-In-One Gel and Sana Isoflavone eye cream after washing with the green Heimish wasm by the way. You can also see the general condition of my skin.

As you can see, Allie has a much less patchy finish and looks more radiant overall. Maybe you can put a price tage on good sunscreen after all? It also has the strongest fragrance of them all, and today, my sensitive eyes are a little bothered. It's a lovely scent (not sure I get peach or jasmine) that I would wear as a body spray, but I don't need it in my sunscreen.

I then applied Allie all over my face: here you can see me squinting into the sun. To me, this looks better than the other two. Keep in mind all of these photos are taken to show as much as possible, so they all look terribly unflattering. I use a first gen Iphone SE, no editing other than the black marker, and my atrocious photography skills only. (My hair was also still wet lol)

Let me know if you want me to compare these in different ways. (Thank you, Qatar Airways, for your generous 30 kg allowance! I can even forgive the slightly rude and overly perfumed flight attendants for that.)

Compared to the last time I lived in Japan and blogged here, my focus is more on skincare, haircare and lip products than colourful eyeshadows and nail stuff. An old favourite of mine makes a reappearance as well, though.

Here's everything I bought (except for a peach-scented lipbalm that doesn't do much for my lips - I forgot to take it out of my bag):

From left to right, back to front (I have bigger pictures if anyone wants to see them):

Softymo Speedy Cleansing Oil refill: I have used up several bottles of this, and now finally bought a refill instead of a new bottle (they don't sell refills at Sasa)

Mutenka Cleansing Milk because I like skincare without unnecessary additives, especially if all you do is wash them off. As long as the cleanser is gentle, that's enough for me.

Ichikami Smoothing Shampoo: I used to love this years ago, but then strayed from it. Now it's gone sulfate-free and since I jumped on that bandwagon (I'm not really doing the curly girl method, but my wavy hair breaks pretty easily and frizzes), I had to have it. (There's actually quite a lot of innovation going on in Japan regarding hair products, and most of them smell wonderful, too.)

Ichikami Smoothing Conditioner: see above

Bene Bluria Delicious SPA Shampoo because I like to rotate my shampoos. (I wash every other day, so this gets used every fourth day.) I was lucky to find the limited Frozen edition in a MatsuKiyo in Ikebukuro and snatched it up right away. I was never a big Disney fan, but someone at work turned me onto Frozen and now I love it. I didn't just buy the Bluria stuff for the design, though. My scalp has been somewhat itchy lately, so the scalp care promise sounded good. I have no idea why the keep talking about blue vegetables, though.

Bluria Delicious SPA Hair Mask

Bluria Delicious SPA Treatment

Bluria Delicious SPA Night Care Milk: all pretty good products, as far as I can tell from using them for a few weeks. They make my hair pretty fluffy, but they're not rich enough to use exclusively in winter, so I switch them up with Ichikami.

Chifure Whitening Skin Lotion VC: Not the first time I'm buying this. I wanted a gentle vitamin C product to use as my lotion in the morning, and this has some pretty good ingredients. I'm not sure how much anti-aging is happening here, but at least it hydrates my skin and doesn't irritate it. Plus it's really affordable.

Naris Up Fukitori Keshousui (Wipe-off lotion): If you look closely, you can see that I accidentally bought a tester... No idea why the lady at the check-out counter didn't notice, but maybe she did and just didn't want to talk to gaijin me. Although I did speak Japanese to her...

Minon Amino Moist Charge Lotion II: I wanted a lotion for my evening regiment, and settled on this because ceramides sounded good. It's more expensive than the Chifure, but still affordable compared to what stuff costs here in Switzerland. Plus, lotions like this are hardly found outside of Asia.

Curel Moisture Cream: I bought two tubes of this instead of the big tub so I can carry one in my bag. I don't use this as a face cream, but around my eyes and sometimes dry patches on my neck or hands. It's pretty nice and also has ceramides.

Kosé Infinity Lipstick in RO633: I was looking for a lipstick to match the dress I wore for my friend's wedding (the reason I went to Japan this time), and ended up with two sales assistants at the Shinjuku Ainz & Tulpe plus my best friend playing with colours on me. A lot of lipsticks look different in the tube and on the mouth, and my lips have some colour to begin with, so it took quite a while for us to find the right shade. I really like this colour for the fall, and the formula is long-lasting without being drying. This is the most expensive lipstick I have ever bought, but as I said above, I've changed my focus from colourful eyeshadows (not work-appropriate...) to lip make-up, which I think suits me better because I can pull off quite deep shades even at work without getting strange comments.

Canmake Stay On Balm Rouge in 09: My second of these, and I love the red colour. Its staying power is mediocre, and it's not as moisturizing as the name makes it sound, but I still really like it and will probably repurchase when I run out. For this price, it's quite a steal.

Mote Mascara (that name *lol*) Long: I had another version of this two years ago and loved this, so I bought the new version and have to say I'm disappointed, especially for the price. Maybe it still needs some time, though, some mascaras get better when they're slightly drier.

Visée Nudey Rich Eyes in BE-7: Okay, so I wanted to buy at least one eye shadow product. It was a lot more difficult to find a really nice neutral palette, especially one where I wouldn't run out of the lighter shades ages before I even made a dent in the darker ones. In the end, I settled on this, and it's nice, but not quite perfect. As you will see in the swatch, the light shades look pretty similar, and the accent shades are a lot darker, so there's too much contrast for it to be a no-brainer busy morning product.

Ettusais Mineral White BB Cream: This was the only base I could find that was light enough for my face, not too pink or yellow (stupid neutral-olive undertone!) and had no "bad" ingredients like alcohol. The coverage is not great, since it's just a BB cream, but it doesn't make my face itch or break out.

Chifure Liquid Foundation: I needed a foundation on my first day in Tokyo, so I bought this in a hurry because it was cheap, but it's too dark and the undertone is not right. Not a bad foundation per se, though, with medium coverage and a satiny finish.

Turtle ear cleaner bought in Gifu

I hope this post was helpful for someone. There are some other products I wish I had bought (especially since I could finally buy tax-free because for the first time in my life, I wasn't in Japan as a student), like that famed Opera glossy lipstick and one Kiss lipstick in a gorgeous reddish shade that had sold out. I was also saddened to find my beloved Majolica Majorca Lash Gorgeous Wing Neo no longer on the shelves.Well, I'm probably going back next year and also have friends visiting who can bring me stuff, so all is well for now. :DJuliahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06615046738488357378noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7118274283222456961.post-11930999379715498282012-05-10T22:12:00.002+09:002012-05-16T19:13:57.176+09:00Teenage Dream Last Friday NightWell, actually I've been wearing OPI's Teenage Dream since Friday two weeks ago. That's why it looks kind of grown out. ^^; This week, I decided I would use Last Friday Night on the tips and create some sort of gradient effect. It reminds me of dusk, what do you think?

The colours are more accurate in the second picture, but the first one shows the glitter effect better. <3
OPI nail polishes are top quality, they dry fast and last very long my nails at least. Like any other glitter polish, however, after a while they look a bit duller than they did freshly applied. I don't know if you understand what I'm trying to say. ^^;

These two are my only OPI fullsizes at the moment. The others I own are a set of 5 minis, including one very pretty red I have no idea what it's called. >.< OPI is expensive in Germany, and I have enough nail polishes here to justify not making a bulk order on the internet. I did, however, fall in love with Teenage Dream when I saw swatches. and decided to get Last Friday Night as well because I had to pay shipping anyway. These are also the two Katy Perry songs Darren Criss sung on Glee, and while I don't care for Katy Perry all that much (her songs sound very similar, although I have to admit they're harder to sing than they sound), I love what Darren Criss does with her music. <3 (Btw, I want those OPI for Sephora Glee nail polishes, especially Gleek Out. Yes, I watch Glee, but mainly for the music, the storylines... *cough*)

What do you think about my little experiment? Yay? Nay?Juliahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06615046738488357378noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7118274283222456961.post-38492206601932129162012-05-03T23:30:00.002+09:002012-05-03T23:36:09.714+09:00New haircutAnd the happier post I promised comes right away!
As I said, I've been at home a lot lately, but I did go out to get my hair cut, so here is a picture I took of my new do today:

This picture is fairly accurate in terms of colour, I dare say, so please excuse my stupid expression. ^^;
I used:

Kate High Cover Powder Foundation in Bright-up Color

no name eyebrow powder

Majolica Majorca Shadow Customize in WT963 all over, GR185 in the crease and the outer lower lashline and BR784 to lightly tightline

Majolica Majorca Lash Gorgeous Wing Neo (of course)

Jill Stuart Mix Blush Compact in #11 Rose Fairy, which has quickly become my favourite blush, but doesn't really show up in this picture

Coffret d'or Full Styling Rouge (Glow) in RS-244, which is my favourite MLBB lipstick (and sadly discontinued >.<), which is a tad darker in real life

It feels a little weird to be wearing a full face of make-up again after several weeks of being almost bare-faced with only BB cream etc.

I'm actually having quite a few stress-related (I guess) zits in unusual places, but my camera was being nice and blurred my skin into perfection. :D Plus, the Kate powder foundation is suprisingly nice and, even more surprising, actually light enough. I'm glad, really, because I've run out of my Everday Minerals foundation and the new ones I've ordered are probably stuck in customs again. -.- For reference, I used up two containers of the Fair Neutral Matte Foundation and now ordered Olive Fair in Matte and Semi-Matte, one each, because the undertones match me better. (Fair Neutral did look very pinkish-white on me after a while.) As I said above, this photo is pretty close to my actual colouring, only my lips look a little washed out.

Do you like the shorter hair? I know, I've had a similar cut in 2010, then let it grow long again, cut again... My usual roller coaster of hair lenghts. ^^;Juliahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06615046738488357378noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7118274283222456961.post-78764576137216173002012-05-03T23:12:00.002+09:002012-05-03T23:34:12.025+09:00Sad newsSorry for the long absence. I wasn't in the mood for blogging, and even if I had been, I stayed mostly at home with no make-up on, caring for my sick cat who passed away a week ago.
If you don't like to read about people's pets, I'm sorry, but let me post one picture of her:

I got her when I was 7, and the almost 16 years we've been together are the longest friendship I've ever had. As you can probably imagine, I miss her like crazy, but I know she's in heaven now and a lot happier than here.

I promise I will post a "real" entry right after this.Juliahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06615046738488357378noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7118274283222456961.post-45231167315895996022012-04-09T04:25:00.000+09:002012-04-09T04:25:33.763+09:00Tag: BeautySorry for the silence on this blog, but life got in the way. My cat is sick, so if someone wants to include her in their evening prayers, we'd appreciate that!

I was tagged by the lovely shelynx from Der Blasse Schimmer, which is a word play on the saying, "I don't have the faintest idea" - "ich habe keinen blassen Schimmer" in German, and the fact that "blass" means pale. I always enjoy reading blogs by other pale ladys because as you know, I don't stick out much from the wall behind me. xD (I'm no wallflower, however, and like my bright colours.)

Anyway, she tagged me on the topic of beauty, so I am going to write a little something about my views on beauty. Do share yours if you feel like it!

Before I start, these are the rules:

Mention the blogger who tagged you and link to their blog

Write 8 things about you related to the topic chosen by that blogger

Tag eight people

Tell those eight people about it.

Make up your own topic for the others to write about.

Okay, so beauty it is!

1. Beauty lies in the eye of the beholder. Different strokes for different blokes, I guess.

2. What you love seems beautiful. So people say your boyfriend is not Brad Pitt, but to you, he's the best-looking guy in the world? Keep thinking that, you're doing something right. :)

3. I tend to have trouble finding people I don't like beautiful. I can admit they're pretty, but someone with a bad personality can't be beautiful.

4. Likewise, a smile and a great personality make someone beautiful.

5. Personality works better than make-up. :)

6. Nevertheless, I can totally admire beautiful women in magazines (or in the street *cough*) and feel a little down about not looking like them.

7. I do, however, find myself beautiful most days. Beauty is a matter of attitude after all.

8. I think my readers and friends are all very beautiful. :)
I'm not good at tagging people, but if you feel like it, I'd like to hear your views on beauty, too. :)Juliahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06615046738488357378noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7118274283222456961.post-46507498505440372162012-03-16T21:35:00.001+09:002012-03-16T21:35:13.008+09:00Sasa free shippingSasa offers free worldwide shipping for orders over 29$ and expedited shipping for only 8$ this week!

Recently, on a German beauty blog I follow, someone mentioned a spelling mistake the blogger makes a lot, and pretty much every other comment was about how this one person who dared to highlight the mistake should stop caring so much or just open a spelling blog instead.

I don't think that a typo is the end of the world, but I do like to read blogs that are as mistake-free as possible, and I would definitely appreciate it if you pointed out any mistakes to me, especially since I'm writing this blog in a language that's not my native one.
So while I agree that a mistake is not a big deal, I don't think we should go and attack someone who points one out in a nice way.

This also made me think how some beauty bloggers are totally meticulous about their eye make-up or foundation routine, but don't care about spelling or grammar all that much. Why can't we put a little effort into both? It's a way of showing respect to your readers, if you ask me.
Plus, considering beauty bloggers probably have a bit of a "dumb" image already, we should really try and show the world that make-up is not all we have in (or on) our heads, shouldn't we? We are smart, too, and we don't want to feed any stupid rumours by making stupid mistakes in our entries, don't you agree?

What do you think about this?Juliahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06615046738488357378noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7118274283222456961.post-1623659989120335002012-01-28T06:30:00.000+09:002012-01-28T06:30:31.829+09:00Oh ChanelI was this close to buying a Rouge Coco Shine, and I've always wanted the Mademoiselle fragrance, but recently, I've found out that Coco Chanel not only wasn't particularly against the nazis, she also promoted tanning.

Well, thank you, Ms. Chanel, for all those people who feel like coming up to me and telling me to go out and tan a little or asking if I don't any friends to take me out of the house sometimes.Juliahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06615046738488357378noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7118274283222456961.post-25570134346340875512012-01-25T20:12:00.000+09:002012-01-25T20:12:21.477+09:00One of these days... possibly when I'm done with my thesis, I have to place an order here:

http://salenail.com/index.php

Although I find it a bit hard to order colours only based on online swatches. And I'm not doing crazy colours and nail designs very often these days.

Lately, I've become more of a neutral eye make-up and reddish/rosey lipstick kind of person, it seems. They just suit me better, and they're definitely much more work-appropriate.Juliahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06615046738488357378noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7118274283222456961.post-79158688126382042862012-01-21T02:24:00.000+09:002012-01-21T02:24:56.279+09:00I am looking for a specific shade of lipstickSpecifically, a neutral rosey pink. (Although to those people who tend to think of warmer shades like the Japanese PK ones, I should probably say a cool-neutral pink.)
It should look like the very first picture here on A Touch of Blusher.

Any suggestions? If possible, Japanese (and not completely matte, although also not glittery or -ugh- frosty) lipsticks, although I'm afraid with such a specific wish, I'll probably have to venture into different brands, maybe even MAC.Juliahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06615046738488357378noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7118274283222456961.post-57088678685869902672012-01-16T00:23:00.000+09:002012-01-16T00:23:11.126+09:00I need one of theseI haven't even managed to pick up one of the new nail polishes yet, and the #700 eye colour is still on my wishlist, too, but this:

Torn between 100 and 300 at the moment, and you?Juliahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06615046738488357378noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7118274283222456961.post-55023920971071971122012-01-13T19:49:00.000+09:002012-01-13T19:49:56.645+09:00Am I the only one...... whose face has a different colour from the neck?
To be more precise, my face is pink-toned (there's probably also some redness, but the skin itself is rather cool-toned, too), whereas my neck is more neutral-to-yellow.
If I put on yellow make-up, though, it looks weird, too.

Plus, my hair is a warm golden-brown, which clashes with my face quite nicely, and I have not yet managed to get rid of the warm hues.

Very, very strange. :/Juliahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06615046738488357378noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7118274283222456961.post-91259841584378758342012-01-09T20:48:00.001+09:002012-01-09T20:48:34.378+09:00New LayoutWhat do you think? I hope this will be a good year for you and for me.

Speaking of me, the deadline for my graduation is coming closer, and I will be absent from this blog for a little while. (You can still email me if you need me for anything!)

Maybe it's a good time to take a break, seeing as my skin hated the holidays (fat and sugary food + the cold I just have to catch as soon as I get a few days off) and is looking quite bad at the moment. Just in time, I have received quite a lot of Avène skincare samples from the Cleanance series which I will be trying out (my Clinique set ran out and my La Roche-Posay Toleriane fluid is also quite empty - the Effaclar Duo I just bought can wait) - despite the hiatus, I shall update quickly if I see any results. I do worry about it being drying, as I don't have oily, but combination-dry and sensitive acne-prone skin, but I guess Clean-Ac should help with that.

So, I hope you'll all be well!
See you soon,
JuliaJuliahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06615046738488357378noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7118274283222456961.post-76281954056639074362011-12-22T00:19:00.000+09:002011-12-22T00:19:52.179+09:00First haircut of the yearSeriously, this is the first time I've been to the salon this year. Oo My hair had gotten pretty long (about bra-level-length xD) and I felt like cutting it all off.

So here:
None of these is very accurate colour-wise. ^^;

Also sporting:
Everyday Minerals Matte Foundation in Fair Neutral
Paul&Joe Duo Eye Gloss in #04 Bourgeoisie, Majolica Majorca Creamy Pencil Liner in brown and Lash Gorgeous Wing Mascara
Lavshuca Star Glow Rouge in RS-2 (which is darker in real life, a very nice berry colour)Juliahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06615046738488357378noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7118274283222456961.post-80276327067041508062011-12-15T20:51:00.000+09:002011-12-15T20:51:04.296+09:00Sasa Free Expedited ShippingI just placed my first Sasa.com order!
They are offering free expedited shipping til the 19th if you buy products for $49 or more, and the Jill Stuart Blush Compact in #11 Rose Fairy was $44, so I ordered an SK-II sample with it. Paid €39 in the end, which isn't bad at all. :)

(Usually, Sasa.com only ships for free (and standard shipping, not expedited) if you order for over $100, and while I could totally find enough stuff I want *cough*, my bank account will not agree with me then.)

I wonder if it will be here before Christmas, so I can wear it with my new eye jelly I got this week (#10 Vintage Decor) and which I love. <3Juliahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06615046738488357378noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7118274283222456961.post-46318248022312217042011-11-29T18:54:00.002+09:002011-11-29T19:51:00.446+09:00My first blog award!I just got my first blog award from the dear CamiKatze, a fellow blogger from Berlin. I totally didn't expect this, so now is my time to say a huge THANK YOU and to give out seven blog awards in return!

But first of all, let me say a few words about CamiKatze's blog "VANITAS". Unfortunately, it is in German only, but I think it is worth using google translator or similar means for international visitors, because it is full of interesting reviews (about Asian cosmetics, too) from a very honest yet sweet blogger. (I love our long conversations about literature and the world! Yes, we don't just talk about make-up. xD)

The seven blogs I'd like to hand this award on to are:
VANITAS (right back at you! XP)
Lotus Palace (which I must visit every day)
My Women Stuff
Rouge Deluxe
A Touch of Blusher
Of Toys and Tokyo
Beauty BoxJuliahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06615046738488357378noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7118274283222456961.post-12522273005349847092011-11-26T20:12:00.003+09:002012-08-07T03:02:01.654+09:00Foundation swatches (finally!)

And here I bring you the swatches of all foundations I own, which I promised like half a year ago?

This is as accurate as my camera was willing to get. (I know it looks shadey and dark, but this was the only photo with accurate contrast, the lighter ones also made the foundation seem too light and actually match my skintone. In fact, the contrast is even bigger in reality, and I got a little shock when I looked at my arm.)

From left to right:
Kate High Coverage Liquid Foundation (Bright-up Color)
Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation in #51
Astor Matitude HD in ... there's no colour ID written on my bottle, but the lightest colour there is
Maybelline Pure Make-up in Porcelaine Ivory
BRTC Blemish Recover Balm
Holika Holika Petite Watery BB Cream

Take a look at this picture (click to enlarge):

See what I mean?

As you can see, only the Kate actually matches my skin - and that is the one that has almost zero coverage (despite its name. ^^;)
Bourjois is a bit too dark and yellow; Astor a bit too dark and orange, although it looks more pink on my face; Maybelline looks orange, here, too, but gets pink-ish on the face; BRTC looks almost muddy brown, despite it actually being very pale on my face (I just can't apply it there because it itches and breaks me out like crazy); and Holika Holika is too dark (btw, it really is watery, as it kept running down my arm.)

*sigh* At least Everyday Minerals' Fair Neutral fits me, but it would be nice to have a liquid foundation that fits my skintone and doesn't break me out for days when my skin feels too dry for powder. :(
XD
Nah, just for me to keep track of, my wishlist at the moment is:

- Jill Stuart Jelly Eye Color N in either 02, 10 or 13 (can't decide yet, but definitely neutral colours)
- Jill Stuart Mix Blush Compact in 11 Rose Fairy
- Jill Stuart Nail Lacquer N in 19 Treasure Box (these wishes alone will easily cost me 100€ >.<)

- Anna Sui Eye Color #700

- Lavshuca Star Decoration Eyes BR-2
- Lavshuca Star Glow Rouge RS-2

- Majolica Majorca Cheek Color in PK333 Berry Pink
<strike>
</strike>
<strike>- Coffret d'Or Bright Up Rouge Long Keep in PK-260 ?</strike>
<strike>- Maquillage Lasting Perfect Rouge RS347 ? (that looks a lot darker on my sample card and on my lips than here)</strike>
<strike>(I was eyeing Maquillage's new lip product, and also the high ranking Aube one, but I simply do not like liquid lipsticks - for some reason, they always look overdone on me. Although Coffret d'Or's Essence Stay Rouge looks really good here, especially RD-191, and also some of the older colours.)</strike>
<strike>I'm also still eyeing Maquillage's double-ended lip product, despite its horrible ratings on cosme.net. But while I buy eye shadows after comparing lots of online swatches, I find it a bit of a gamble to spend more than 20€ on a lipstick that might come out a lot different on my own lips. :( (I had a sample card of Rouge Enamel Glamour once and the model colour, RD387, looked good on me, but for daily life, I'd probably rather buy something like PK243.)</strike>
EDIT: They really are too dry for me - I miss the old Glow lipsticks from Coffret d'Or! Full Styling Rouge Glow in RS-244 is my My-lips-but-better lipstick. >.<<strike>
</strike>

But some Paul&Joe items have made it onto my list:
- Paul&Joe eye gloss in a neutral colour

My plan is to use a beige Anna Sui eye shadow (powder), a dark brown Jill Stuart eye jelly as "liner" and a very light Paul&Joe eye gloss as highlighter. Of course I have beige eyeshadows and brown liners (Majolica Majorca's cream liner in brown is great!) etc., but I want three really cute items I can carry around all the time and feel happy when I look at them. Weird, huh? ^^;

As you can see, these are mostly neural eye colours and berry-ish lipsticks. Not only do I find those very nice for this time of the year, I am also working in a school at the moment, so fancy make-up is a no-go at least on workdays.
Should I make a post on a "school"-FOTD?
What does your wishlist look like at the moment?Juliahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06615046738488357378noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7118274283222456961.post-2518346072439274152011-10-17T00:28:00.001+09:002011-10-17T00:29:31.824+09:00Clinique Anti-Blemish Solutions Review (1 month)(Shouldn't that be Blemish solutions, btw? It's like people saying they're doing something "against anti-aging". Huh?)
So I was rather fed up with my skin for quite some time, specifically after I went off the pill (which I had only taken for a year) last summer. Nothing really helped, and lately, my skin was horribly itchy and irritated. I tried using basic care and proper hydration to cure it, but it failed. So when Clinique re-issued its trial kits for 9€, I was sold.
The kit from the Anti-Blemish range includes:
Anti-Blemish Solutions Cleansing Bar 50 g
Anti-Blemish Clarifying Lotion 60ml
Anti-Blemish Solutions Clearing Moisturizer 30ml

The SA told me that the kit should last for about 3 weeks. I've been using it for 4 weeks now, and have only run out of the lotion last week. The moisturizer is about to finish now, and the soap is still pretty big and I estimate it might last another two to three months.(I bought a second trial kit as you get quite some value for 9€ considering 50 ml of the moisturizer usually cost around 25€ here in Germany, and a 200 ml bottle of the toner.)
So far, this range is working for me. The first week or so, I had little bumps coming up, which I assume were purging. Now, I rarely get new pimples anymore. Today, I'm having a few, maybe due to something I ate, maybe a case of purging from deeper within the skin - anyway, there are some big and painful (if touched) pimples under the right side of my chin. I hope they will go away soon and will keep you updated. As for the negative effects, this is pretty drying and as I have told you a few days ago, my skin is kinda peeling. I hope this will go away eventually, too. BUT my skin is barely ever itching anymore!

As for the individual products:
The cleansing bar cleanses like any normal soap, I'd say, and doesn't leave behinf any residue. However, it also makes my skin feel dry and tight.
The lotion is pretty harsh on the skin, but probably the item in the range that works best at fighting acne. If I have a particularly stubborn spot (like a big zit), I sometimes place a piece of cotton saturated with the lotion on it for a while and the zit vanished rather quickly. I know, the instruction tell you to just wipe over the skin once quickly and gently, but that doesn't always do it. It also removed dirt quite effectly, as I sometimes get an orange cotton pad even after double cleansing at night.
The moisturizer isn't really very moisturizing, but the SA told me I'd have to put up with that. If I really can't bear the tight feeling (sometimes it's worse than other days), I dab on a bit of my beloved Nature Republic aloe vera gel (bought my 4th tub this year!) over it.

My problem with this range is the drying. Even if it is effective for now, I am afraid my skin will get oily in the long run (so far, I have combination skin with breakouts mostly in the dry spots like jawline - very likely hormon-induced) and make things worse eventually. So after my skin is cleared, I am planning on using this only once a day paired with oil-free, but hydrating products (the above mentioned aloe vera gel, Tosekki lotion etc.) and maybe dab on jojoba oil in winter.

I will keep you updated on how this is going!
Also, I have a sample of Kiehl's Overnight Biological Peel and used it twice already and will squeeze two or three more uses out of the sachet. If I like it, I might end up buying a (pricey >.<) bottle, as that kind of exfoliation supposedly is good for acne-prone, but sensitive skin.
Do you have any products you would recommend?Juliahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06615046738488357378noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7118274283222456961.post-58433770821345857642011-10-14T01:18:00.002+09:002012-01-06T21:00:26.012+09:0011 Random Facts about this Blogger(Ugh, I woke up with severely peeling skin due to the Clinique stuff. >.<)

Anyway, since you'll have to wait a little longer for the next review(s), I thought it's time to tell you something about who's blog you're reading here anyway. Not the usual "I'm 22, a taurus and have almost finished my bachelor in Japanese studies and want to be a teacher after that" stuff, but a lot more random. xD

1. I love turtles. Almost everything I own sports at least one turtle on it (except for my clothes - although I do have a few turtle shirts.) I do not own an actual living turtle, though.
2. Harry Potter is awesome - Twilight makes me want to barf. Don't even get me started on the whole portrayal of abusive relationships as true love.
3. I am a Gleek. And yes, the show makes no sense, but if you take it like that, it's so much fun. Oh, how I miss my choir days... (If you want to know which character I identify with most, I'd have to say Rachel. I also happen to be a soprano - might be mezzo, though, but I've never had any formal evalution or training; I sang first soprano at school most of the time, unless the teacher needed someone to fill in at the second or the altos, and that someone was always me for some reason ^^; - but I'm not as good as her.)
4. I wish Pokémon were real. My favourites are Eevee, Chikorita (I swear if I was a Pokémon, I'd be a Chikorita xD), Squirtle and many more. I never let my favourites evolve in the games, which is why I am awfully weak.
5. Pretty much the only other game I play apart from Pokémon (and Wii Sports) is The Sims.
6. My (probably) strangest hobby is constructing houses. I use the above mentioned Sims or a special architecture programme for that.
7. I still have my Playmobil house in my room and rebuild it from time to time or buy new furniture on ebay.
8. I still haven't gotten my ears pierced, although I've totally been wanting to for years now and even have a bunch of earrings (some self-made) lying around here.
9. When I was 16 or 17, I won 5th place in a writing competiton of a German manga magazine (which imports Japanese manga series from Hana to Yume, like Skip Beat! etc.) - you were expected to write a romantic short story, and the winner story was changed into a short manga. Too bad I didn't win, but honestly, when I look at that story now, I wonder how I even made 5th place. >.<
10. I have a copy of Yoshimoto Banana's Kitchen (in Japanese) lying on my nightstand all the time.
11. I watch english DVDs with english subtitles.Juliahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06615046738488357378noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7118274283222456961.post-85719814527908490842011-10-08T19:38:00.000+09:002011-10-08T19:38:56.341+09:00Rewarding myselfSince I handed in my essay yesterday (and it seems like my classmates haven't yet - what did I pressure myself for? -.-), I decided to reward myself and ended up buying my very first Jill Stuart item, the limited Charming Lily Blush Blossom (#07) I had spotted in Gooddealer.com! It's quite expensive, almost 44€, but I don't really have any nice blush apart from the two Mix Color Cheeks by Lavshuca, and while those are incredibly travel-friendly, I wanted something to put on my (not yet existent) vanity table. xD (I am eyeing the Mix Blush Compact in #11,Rose Fairy, too. (You probably don't know it, but apart from my cosmetics addiction, I am also a total geek and at the moment writing a Pokémon story about two sisters named Rose and Lily. xD Yes, I know that I'm 22 - but come on, don't you sometimes wish Pokémon - or Harry Potter - were real?) I also want one of her eye jellys, probably #13 Antique Chiffon. <3

Anyway, once I get the blush, I will review it, of course! (^___^)Juliahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06615046738488357378noreply@blogger.com1
